Sorrento Wedding Venues: A Photographer’s Guide to the Best Villas & Hotels (Updated 2026)
Looking at Sorrento wedding venues? Here’s the short version: Sorrento gives you what most couples want from the Amalfi Coast, sea views, lemon gardens, and proper sunsets, plus easier roads, more space, and more hotel rooms than Positano. You’ll find grand cliff-top hotels, historic villas with huge gardens, and small, intimate spots for a micro wedding.
I photograph weddings on the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento peninsula, so this guide covers what the glossy listings skip: how many guests each venue really holds, where you can legally say your vows, what things roughly cost, how to plan a boat trip, and where the light is best.

Sorrento wedding venues: where everything is
Sorrento sits on the Bay of Naples, on the other side of the peninsula from Positano and Amalfi. That’s the big difference: it faces the sea and Mount Vesuvius, and the sun sets over the water. Roughly:
Sorrento town: cliff-top hotels and villas, the old centre, the cloister and the harbour, all within walking distance.
Sant’Agnello and Piano di Sorrento: about 5–10 minutes east. Quieter, with villas, gardens and Villa Fondi for civil ceremonies.
Massa Lubrense and Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi: about 15–25 minutes west, toward the tip of the peninsula. Views of Capri, more countryside feel.
Positano: around 40–60 minutes over the hills. Perfect for portraits the day before or after the wedding.
Capri: a short boat ride across the water from Sorrento’s harbour.
Naples airport is about an hour from Sorrento by car, depending on traffic. Guests from the US, Canada and the UK usually fly into Naples, or into Rome and take the fast train to Naples, then a transfer. Sorrento is also the easiest base on the whole coast if you want your guests to have lots of hotels, restaurants and things to do.
Here’s every venue, ceremony spot and boat departure point from this guide on one map. Click a pin to see the name and a link to the venue’s website.

Villa Astor, Sorrento
If I had to pick one venue that sums up Sorrento, it would be Villa Astor. William Waldorf Astor bought the villa in 1905 and filled it with classical and Renaissance antiques, and later it hosted guests like Gregory Peck, Princess Margaret and Sophia Loren. It sits on the cliffs, about a five-minute walk from the historic center, with a wide view over the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius.
The gardens. About two hectares, with more than 1,000 plant species, ponds, fountains, a grotto-style pool, lemon and olive groves and palms. Lots of little paths and corners, which is great for portraits away from your guests.
Ceremonies. Symbolic ceremonies for up to about 120 guests on the panoramic terrace, or in the garden by the pool. Civil ceremonies happen at the Sorrento cloister, and church weddings at a nearby church.
Dinner and party. Up to about 200 guests with a marquee, though the sweet spot is roughly 100–120. Outdoor music runs until about 11:30 pm, then the party moves inside.
Staying there. The villa sleeps 12 in four suites and two bedrooms, plus around 8 more in the tower, with a minimum stay of roughly 3–7 nights depending on the season (Villa Astor).
There’s no question it’s the iconic villa of Sorrento: pure luxury. If your budget allows, the garden with its big old trees and the classic drone shots of the villa above the sea are a must-have.

More wedding venues in Sorrento
Sorrento has more big, established wedding venues than anywhere else on this coast. These are the names I’d start with:
Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. The classic. A Belle Époque hotel founded in 1834 and still run by the same family, with private gardens, frescoed halls and terraces over the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Outdoor ceremonies for up to about 150 guests, and dinners for roughly 100–150 (Excelsior Vittoria weddings).
Bellevue Syrene. A five-star hotel right on the cliff, with historic frescoed rooms, panoramic terraces and its own beach club down by the sea. It has 51 rooms and suites, and you can book the whole hotel exclusively, so it’s all your people (Bellevue Syrene weddings).
Villa Zagara. A family-owned historic estate in the middle of Sorrento, looking over the fishing village of Marina Grande. About 20,000 square meters of gardens with old trees, statues and a big historic pool. It takes up to about 200 guests, which makes it one of the best options for a large wedding. Symbolic ceremonies happen in the gardens, and there’s only a bridal suite on site, so guests stay in hotels nearby (Villa Zagara).
Parco dei Principi. A late 18th-century villa and a 1960s hotel designed by Gio Ponti, set in a botanical park with a private beach. The terrace has colourful majolica tiles and looks straight out to sea, and there’s a neoclassical courtyard for ceremonies or dinner. A great pick if you like mid-century design more than chandeliers (Parco dei Principi events).
Villa Antiche Mura. A small 19th-century villa in a lemon grove, right in town. It suits intimate weddings and elopements, with symbolic ceremonies on the terrace. One nice detail: they can arrange a Protestant (Valdese) ceremony that is legally binding right at the villa (ceremony options).
Where to say your vows: the cloister and Villa Fondi
If you want a legal civil ceremony in Italy, it has to happen in a place the town has approved. Around Sorrento, these are the two you’ll hear about most:
Chiostro di San Francesco (Sorrento). A 14th-century cloister a short walk from the centre, with arches, bougainvillaea, and a quiet courtyard. Right next to it, the Villa Comunale gardens look out over the bay, which is perfect for a few photos straight after the ceremony. It’s popular, so in peak season ceremonies can run one after another. Ask about your time slot early (more about the cloister).
Villa Fondi (Piano di Sorrento). A neoclassical villa in a park with lemon and orange trees, about 10 minutes from Sorrento. The terrace looks over the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius, and there are indoor rooms if the weather turns (Villa Fondi civil weddings).
Wedding venues near Sorrento
Relais Blu (Massa Lubrense). A boutique hotel toward the tip of the peninsula, with terraces facing Capri and a pool. Smaller weddings of about 15–50 guests can use its terraces, and for 50–120 guests you book the whole hotel. It hosts both religious and civil ceremonies (Relais Blu weddings).
Villa Ricky (Priora, Sorrento). A private villa with a pool up in the hills above Sorrento, in the quiet Priora area, with views over the coast. Rental villas like this are often better value than a hotel, and you get the whole place to yourselves. I photographed Shelby & Calvin’s wedding at Villa Ricky, with 12 guests. They planned everything themselves, added a boat photoshoot in Positano the day before, and kept it all under about €30,000 in 2025. See Villa Ricky on Google Maps →
Agriresort Villa Edera (Massa Lubrense). A small agriresort in an 1869 building, surrounded by old olive groves, with an infinity pool looking over the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius. It has just four double rooms and a suite, so it suits an intimate wedding where your closest people stay on site. They also organise boat trips to the coves nearby and cooking classes, which make easy welcome-day plans for guests. I’ve photographed weddings here myself, and there are several great spots for portraits. My favourite is by the pool, where you get the blue water and the sea in one frame, two in one. Next is the terrace, with the Mediterranean right behind you. And on top of that, there are two or three more corners with greenery in the background, plus the main entrance road, which gives you a nice perspective shot (Villa Edera, @agriresort.villaedera).
Positano and the Amalfi side. If you want cliffs and pastel houses in the background, you’re only an hour away. See my guide to Positano wedding venues for the villas and hotels over there.

What a Sorrento wedding costs
Venues rarely publish prices, but here’s a realistic starting point. These are rough estimates, so always confirm current prices with the venue.
Micro weddings and elopements (up to about 20 guests): from around €20,000–€35,000 all in, like Shelby & Calvin’s villa wedding.
Historic villas (Villa Astor, Villa Zagara): expect the venue alone to start from roughly €20,000–€35,000+, with catering, a multi-night minimum stay and décor on top.
Catering: usually about €150–€300 per person for dinner, drinks and service.
Five-star hotels (Excelsior Vittoria, Bellevue Syrene, Parco dei Principi): full weddings often start around €40,000 and can go well past €100,000.
Extras people forget: transfers from Naples, minibuses between the cloister and the venue, and hotel rooms in peak season.
Most Sorrento weddings land somewhere between €25,000 and €80,000+, depending on the venue, guest count and how much you add. Sorrento is usually a bit easier on the budget than Positano, mostly because there’s more space and more rooms.

Boat rental in Sorrento
A boat trip is one of the best things you can do here. From Sorrento you can cruise to Capri, along the Amalfi Coast to Positano, or just around the peninsula for a swim and some couple photos. It’s a great welcome day for your guests, or a quiet few hours for just the two of you the day after the wedding. You can see how it looks in real photos in my Positano boat couple photoshoot.
One thing to know before you book: be specific about the boat. Plenty of rentals are simple tourist boats that are fine for a swim but won’t give you that polished look in photos. Ask for photos of the exact boat you’re getting, not just the fleet page.
Two companies worth a look:
Exclusive Dream Boat. Luxury vintage boats for a couple shoot on the water. Keep in mind that these classic boats are small: there’s room for just the two of you plus a photographer and a videographer. The drone operator usually stays on the coast and films you from there as you ride by (@exclusivedreamboat on Instagram).
Italian Marvel. Vintage and modern Riva boats with a captain, leaving from Sorrento. They do photo shoots, proposals and wedding experiences (Riva boats in Sorrento).
Prices vary a lot with the boat and the season. As a rough idea, expect from about €400 for a few hours on a smaller boat to €2,000+ for a full day on a motor yacht or a Riva. Confirm current rates with the company.
Where to set off. Most private boats leave from Marina Piccola, Sorrento’s main harbour, which you can reach by elevator or stairs from the centre. Marina Grande, the old fishing village, is the prettier spot for photos before you go, especially in the late afternoon.

Sunset photos: Sorrento gets the real sunset
Here’s something most couples don’t know. In Positano and Amalfi, the sun drops behind the mountains at least an hour before the official sunset time. Sorrento faces west over the Bay of Naples, so you get the proper thing: the sun going down over the sea, with Vesuvius and the bay turning pink behind you.
So plan your portraits for the last hour before sunset, and keep your dinner timing flexible. My tip: the day before the wedding, check where the sun actually goes down from your venue at that time of day, since some terraces face more north than you’d think.

A photographer’s tips for Sorrento
Plan the transfers. Sorrento’s centre is busy, and some streets are closed to traffic. If your ceremony is at the cloister and dinner is elsewhere, book a minibus with a driver and give it extra time.
Use the harbours for photos. Marina Grande is lovely in the late afternoon, with fishing boats and colourful houses. It’s a short, easy stop between the ceremony and dinner.
Check the levels. Cliff-top hotels are built on several floors. Ask how guests move between the ceremony, the aperitivo and dinner, and whether there’s an elevator.
Pick May, June or September. Those are the safest months. August can be super hot, and in late autumn the chance of wind and rain goes up. Many hotels close for the winter.

Couple photoshoot spots in Sorrento
If you’re planning portraits in and around Sorrento, these are my favourite places to start. Just remember: a minibus with a driver makes it much easier to get between them.
1. Marina Grande, the fishing village, best in the late afternoon
2. The Villa Comunale terrace next to the cloister, looking over the bay
3. The old streets of the historic centre, early in the morning before the shops open
4. Your venue’s own terrace at sunset, with Vesuvius behind you
5. From a boat out of Marina Piccola, looking back at the cliffs and the hotels above them
How to choose a Sorrento wedding venue
Sorrento has more choice than anywhere else on this coast, which is great until you have to pick one. Here’s how I’d narrow it down.
Choose by what matters most
Drive from Naples airport: about 1 hour to Sorrento, Sant’Agnello and Piano di Sorrento; about 1 hour 15 minutes to Massa Lubrense.
Guest count: up to about 50, Villa Antiche Mura or the Relais Blu terraces. For 100–150, Excelsior Vittoria or Villa Astor. Up to about 200, Villa Zagara.
Rooms on site: the hotels (Excelsior Vittoria, Bellevue Syrene, Parco dei Principi, Relais Blu) have plenty. Villa Astor sleeps about 20, and Villa Zagara only has a bridal suite.
Rough price per guest: about €250–€450 at a historic villa and €400–€800+ at the five-star hotels (see the price guide below).
Villa Astor or Villa Zagara?
Both are historic garden villas in town. Villa Astor is the more intimate one, with the cliff-top view over the bay and Vesuvius, about 20 beds and a sweet spot of 100–120 guests. Villa Zagara has bigger gardens and takes up to about 200, but your guests stay in hotels nearby. Views and family under one roof: Astor. A big guest list: Zagara.
Excelsior Vittoria or Bellevue Syrene?
The Excelsior is the grand classic, with big private gardens and room for about 150 guests. Bellevue Syrene is smaller, with 51 rooms you can book exclusively and its own beach club. For a big, formal party, the Excelsior. For a weekend where the whole hotel is just your people, Bellevue Syrene.
Sorrento or Positano?
Sorrento gives you easier roads, more hotel rooms, a real sunset over the sea and usually better value. Positano gives you the pastel cliffs everyone pictures. Plenty of couples get married in Sorrento and do their portraits or a boat trip in Positano. See my Positano wedding venues guide to compare.
FAQ
How much does a wedding in Sorrento cost?
A small wedding of 10–20 guests can come in around €20,000–€35,000. A full wedding for 80–120 guests at a Sorrento villa or five-star hotel usually runs from about €60,000 to well over €100,000, depending on the venue and season. Treat these as estimates and confirm with each venue.
How many guests can Villa Astor hold?
Symbolic ceremonies take up to about 120 guests on the terrace, and dinners go up to about 200 with a marquee. The villa works best for roughly 100–120 guests.
Can US citizens legally get married in Sorrento?
Yes. You’ll need documents such as passports, birth certificates and a sworn declaration from the US consulate, then a civil ceremony at an approved place like the Sorrento cloister or Villa Fondi. The US Consulate in Naples explains the steps. Many couples do the legal part at home and have a symbolic ceremony at the venue.
When is the best time to get married in Sorrento?
May, June and September are the safest months. It’s warm, the sea is swimmable, and the evenings are long. August is very hot and busy, and many hotels close from about November to March.
How do guests get to Sorrento?
Most fly into Naples, which is about an hour away by car or private transfer. From Rome, it’s a fast train to Naples and then a transfer. In summer, there are also ferries from Naples, Capri, Positano and Amalfi.

Sorrento wedding price guide per guest
A quick way to compare the venues in this guide:
| Venue type | Examples | Rough price per guest |
|---|---|---|
| Historic villa | Villa Astor, Villa Zagara | €250–€450 |
| Boutique hotel or small villa | Relais Blu, Villa Antiche Mura | €250–€450 |
| Five-star hotel | Excelsior Vittoria, Bellevue Syrene, Parco dei Principi | €400–€800+ |
| Micro wedding (up to ~20 guests) | Villa Ricky, Agriresort Villa Edera or another private villa with a pool | €1,000–€1,700 all in |
These are ballpark figures for the venue share plus dinner, drinks and service, worked out from the estimates in this guide. Per-guest costs go up as your guest list gets smaller, because the venue fee is shared by fewer people. Always confirm current prices with the venue.
