Italy Wedding Photographer Cost: 2026 Price Guide by Region

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Italy? For a full wedding day, most couples spend somewhere between €3,000 and €12,000, and the final number depends less on the region than on who you hire, how many hours you book and what’s hidden in the small print. If you’re planning from the US, Canada or the UK, that last part matters most: travel, a second shooter and VAT can add thousands to a quote that looked cheap.

I’m Miks, a destination wedding photographer who has spent more than ten years photographing weddings across Europe, from masserie in Puglia to villas on Lake Como. Below is the honest Italy wedding photographer cost breakdown I’d give a friend: ballpark prices by photographer type and region, what changes the price, the hidden costs, and how to compare quotes.

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Italy?

Here’s roughly how the market looks in 2026. These are ballpark figures for a wedding day with 60–120 guests. Every photographer prices a little differently, so treat them as a starting point, not a quote.

Type of photographerTypical coverageRough price
Local Italian photographer, shorter day6–8 hours, 1 photographer€2,500–4,000
Experienced destination wedding photographerFull day, 1 photographer€4,000–8,000
Two-photographer teamFull day, 2 photographers, often drone€6,000–10,000
High-end studio or editorial nameFull day, team, film, albums, extra days€10,000–20,000+

For comparison, many couples in the US and UK are used to paying a few thousand for a photographer at home. A good destination photographer in Italy usually costs more, mainly because the day is longer, the logistics are harder, and travel has to be paid for by someone.

A quick tip on currency: most photographers in Italy quote in euros. Check the exchange rate when you compare a euro quote with an American or Canadian photographer quoting in dollars, and ask whether card or transfer fees are on top.

Italy wedding photographer prices by region

The region changes the price less than you’d think. What it changes is the logistics: how far apart the venues are, how much the hotels cost in high season, and whether a boat or a ferry is part of the day.

RegionRough full-day rangeWhat pushes the price up
Lake Como€4,000–12,000Villas spread around the lake, boat transfers, peak-season hotels
Amalfi Coast & Positano€3,000–12,000Steep stairs and narrow roads, early sunrise sessions, ferries
Tuscany & Florence€3,000–10,000Long countryside drives, multi-day villa weddings
Puglia€3,000–10,000Masserie far from airports, late dinners and long parties

Lake Como

Lake Como weddings often move between two or three places: getting ready in one villa, the ceremony in another, and a boat ride in between. That’s why many couples here book two photographers. The public Lake Como ferries are fine for guests, but for the wedding day itself, most couples book a private boat. If you’re still budgeting the whole day, my guide to Lake Como wedding costs and affordable venues helps.

Amalfi Coast and Positano

On the Amalfi Coast, the light is beautiful, but the town is busy from late spring to early fall. If you want Positano without crowds, you’ll want a sunrise session, which usually means a second day of coverage and a higher total.

Tuscany

Tuscan weddings are often two or three days at a villa or wine estate, with a welcome dinner on Friday and a pool party on Sunday. Prices go up with every extra day, so decide early which parts you really want photographed. If any part of the day is in Florence, check the Florence ZTL rules before booking cars, because driving into the limited traffic zone without a permit means a fine.

Puglia

Puglia parties go late. Dinner often starts after sunset, and the dancing runs past midnight, so check that your quote covers the whole evening, not just eight hours. If you haven’t picked a masseria yet, the Puglia wedding venues guide is a good place to start.

What changes the price

  • Hours of coverage. Getting ready to first dance is often 10–12 hours in Italy. Many cheaper quotes stop at 8.
  • One or two photographers. A second photographer covers the bride and groom getting ready at the same time, and catches guest reactions while the other is facing you at the ceremony.
  • Experience with destination weddings. Someone who knows Italian timelines, venue rules and late summer sunsets will plan your day around the light.
  • Extras. Drone photos, 35mm film, an album, a welcome party or a day-after session all add to the total.
  • Season and day of the week. A Saturday in June is the most requested date of the year. Some photographers are more flexible on a Thursday in October.

Hidden costs: travel, second shooter and VAT

This is where most couples from abroad get surprised. Before you compare two quotes, ask what’s included. These are the usual extras, with rough prices:

Hidden costRough price
Flights, hotel and car for the photographer€400–1,000
Second shooter or assistant€600–1,500 per day
VAT if quoted “plus VAT” (Italy’s standard rate is 22%)+€600–2,200 on a €3,000–10,000 quote
Overtime after the agreed hours€300–500 per hour
Welcome dinner or after-party coverage€900–2,000
Wedding album€500–2,500 (loads of options)
Ferries, boats, parking or ZTL fines on the day€50–150

Our tip: compare the total cost, not the headline number. A €4,000 quote plus flights, a hotel, a second shooter and VAT can easily end up higher than an all-inclusive package. Ask every photographer to send you one final number with everything included, in writing.

Also ask how many edited photos you get, how long the gallery takes, and who owns the files. Those answers say a lot about what you’re really paying for.

Italy wedding photographer cost: FAQ

How much does a destination wedding photographer cost in Italy?

Expect roughly €4,000–8,000 for one experienced destination photographer for a full day, and €6,000–10,000 for a two-photographer team. Always check whether travel and VAT are included.

Is it cheaper to hire a local Italian photographer?

Often, yes, by €1,000–3,000. The trade-off can be shorter coverage, less English on the day and a different editing style. Look at full galleries, not just highlights, and read reviews from couples who planned from abroad.

Do I have to pay for my photographer’s travel?

Many photographers charge travel separately, and in summer flights and hotels near Lake Como or Positano are expensive. I include all travel costs in my quotes, so there’s nothing to add later.

How far in advance should we book a photographer in Italy?

For May to October weddings, 12–18 months ahead is a good rule. Popular Saturdays go first, especially in June and September.
