Hannah & Sandeep’s wedding at Bell Recó
Bell Recó is a 1950s masia in Argentona, about half an hour north of Barcelona, with gardens on several levels, a pond, old trees and a house that looks good from almost every angle. Hannah and Sandeep, both from the US, got married here in June 2025 with 160 guests, planned by The Experialist. I photographed the day, and below is what I’d tell any couple looking at this venue: where everything happens, how the day runs, roughly what it costs, and what to plan for.
Where everything happens at Bell Recó
The ceremony was down the stairs by the pond, on the lower level of the gardens, with the villa in the background. Bell Recó has a few ceremony spots, and that’s the one I’d pick: you get the house, the trees and the water in one frame, and that’s the photo you’ll keep. Guests take a short walk down through the garden to get there. Some planners skip that walk: the buses drop the guests straight at the ceremony spot, and everyone goes up to the villa afterwards – there is quite a walk, so older people must be careful.
Dinner is back up the stairs, and you have two options: the terrace, or right in front of the villa. Hannah and Sandeep had theirs in front of the villa. With the house behind the tables, it looks great once the light drops and the lights come on, even without much decor.
The party happens indoors. Bell Recó has a separate bar and party room where loud music is allowed. Outside, the music has to stay down (one planner listing puts the outdoor cut-off at 10 p.m., with music inside until 3 a.m. — check the current rule with the venue). That isn’t the venue being fussy. This part of Catalonia, between Barcelona and the coast, is full of houses, and there are neighbours around Bell Recó. If you’ve pictured dancing under the stars until 2 a.m., this isn’t a remote farm in the middle of nowhere, so plan the party inside from the start.
The light: easier than you’d think
Bell Recó has a lot of big trees, and that makes my job easy. Most of the garden is in shade, so you’re not stuck waiting for the perfect hour to take photos. There are sunny spots too when you want them, but you don’t have to build the day around the sun here the way you do at an open masseria in Puglia.
The shade also helps with the heat. A June afternoon near Barcelona is warm, and guests sitting under trees for a 30-minute ceremony are much happier guests.
One thing to know: in June the sun sets at around 9:20 p.m. in Argentona. So the soft, golden light comes during dinner, not before it. I’d plan a portrait break between courses, 30 minutes at most, to step away for a few photos in the garden while the light is there. Your guests won’t notice, and those are usually the favourite photos.
How the day ran
Here’s roughly how a Bell Recó day goes, and how Hannah and Sandeep’s went:
- Morning: hair and makeup. Moms and bridesmaids first, the bride last. There are rooms on the upper floor of the house for getting ready.
- 4:00 p.m.: ceremony. Anywhere from 4:00 to 5:00 works well here: the trees keep it comfortable, and it leaves plenty of day for everything else.
- After the ceremony: aperitivo for an hour or more, in the garden. Family photos and a short couple session fit in here without rushing anyone.
- Early evening: dinner in front of the villa (or on the terrace).
- During dinner: speeches and a portrait break of up to 30 minutes in the golden light.
- Later: the party moves inside.
- Around midnight or later: buses take guests back to their hotels in Barcelona.
Hannah and Sandeep’s dinner ran longer than usual: a lot of speeches, and some entertainment organised by the planner. With 160 guests, that’s normal, and it’s exactly why I like a timeline with gaps in it. A 4:00 ceremony is never over at 4:20, and that’s fine if nothing is waiting at 4:25. After 350-odd weddings, the relaxed ones are the ones that look relaxed in the photos.
How long the party goes depends on your planner, your guest count and how many speeches you have. Ask your planner early. They’re the one who knows how long 15 toasts really take.

Can guests stay at Bell Recó?
Not overnight. The upper floor has rooms for the couple and the family to get ready, but the ground floor is lounges (a cigar room, the main hall, the library-style room) and there’s no guest accommodation on site.
Most couples put their guests in Barcelona, about 30 minutes away, and the planner arranges buses there and back. Argentona and Mataró, on the coast nearby, have hotels too if you want people closer.
How much does a Bell Recó wedding cost?
I don’t know the venue’s current prices, and they change, so treat these as rough estimates and confirm with Bell Recó directly:
- Venue hire: roughly €7,000–€10,500, plus a ceremony area fee of about €1,500–€3,500 (one planner listing). Another guide lists the venue “from €14,000”. So expect somewhere around €9,000–€14,000+ for the venue and ceremony area together.
- Catering: Bell Recó works with outside caterers and isn’t tied to any of them. One listing puts the catering minimum at about €200 per guest, so for 160 guests that’s €32,000 or more before drinks.
- Planner, flowers, music, buses, photo and video come on top.
For a sense of scale: Hannah and Sandeep’s wedding, with 160 guests and a full-service planner, had a total budget of around €120,000.
Good news for the budget: you choose your own vendors. The venue has a list of people it works with often, and it offers day-of coordination, but you can bring your own planner.
