Trulli Wedding Venues in Puglia: A Photographer’s Guide to the Itria Valley (Updated 2026)

If you’ve seen a photo of a white, cone-roofed stone house in the Italian countryside, that was a trullo. And if you’re dreaming about getting married among them, the place to look is Puglia’s Itria Valley, the green stretch between Alberobello, Locorotondo, Cisternino, Martina Franca and Ostuni.

I photograph weddings here, so this guide covers what the venue listings leave out: what the valley is really like on a wedding day, which trulli wedding venues to look at, and what to plan around.

Why the Itria Valley works so well for weddings

The first thing you notice is how calm it is. There’s basically one main road running through the valley, and once you turn off it, you’re in olive groves, dry stone walls and quiet lanes. It’s the least “resort-y” part of Puglia.

The second thing is the view. Most of Puglia is pretty flat, but because this is a valley, you can see quite far from the higher spots. It’s not dramatic mountain scenery, but golden hour over a valley full of trulli is hard to beat.

It’s also easy for guests. Bari and Brindisi airports are both roughly an hour’s drive or less, and the towns are full of trulli stays, B&Bs and masserie for anyone who can’t sleep at the venue.

Trulli wedding venues worth a look

Here’s a short list of trulli wedding venues with real trulli on site. It’s not every option, just a good place to start.

Masseria Tenuta Pistola (Canale di Pirro). An 18th-century masseria with its own trulli, gardens and olive groves, right in the heart of the valley. I photographed Catherine & Simon’s wedding here, and it’s a great mix of historic stone and relaxed garden spaces. There are many great photo session spots that you can use throughout the day- the garden with loads of options, the masseria’s white walls, the rooftop with Trulli in the background, the pool and many more.

Masseria Grieco (Ostuni). A country resort with eight trulli, arches, terraces and a big square overlooking the valley, plus an infinity pool. Listings put a 3-night exclusive hire at around €21,000 + VAT, with catering from about €180 per person (La Lista). Always confirm current prices with the venue.

Leonardo Trulli Resort (Locorotondo). Trulli rooms, masseria rooms and villas, with an olive-shaded outdoor area, a rose garden courtyard and a chef who builds the menu around you (venue site).

Materiis (Noci). An 1897 farmhouse with original trulli, surrounded by oak woods on the road toward Martina Franca. It feels more rustic and wild, good for couples who want nature over polish (venue site).

Tenuta Monacelle (Selva di Fasano). A larger estate with its own trulli village, masseria rooms and an in-house events team, a practical choice for bigger guest lists (venue site).

What a trulli wedding costs

Venues rarely publish prices, but here’s a realistic starting point. Masseria buyouts in Puglia typically run from about €14,000–€16,000 for a 2-night midweek stay to €19,000–€26,000+ for a 3-night weekend, depending on season and size (Tim Sonmez). Catering is usually priced per person on top. Most venues require a 2–4 night minimum in summer, so you’re booking a wedding weekend, not just a day.

A photographer’s tips for the Itria Valley

The light is bright. Really bright. Masseria and trulli are painted white, and in the midday sun they reflect everything. My camera often wants a shutter speed faster than 1/8000, so I have to change my aperture to keep the white walls from blowing out. If your photographer hasn’t shot white stone in southern Italian sun, ask how they handle it.
Evening light is the best part. Once the sun drops, the whole valley goes soft and warm. Plan your ceremony and portraits for the last couple of hours before sunset.

Watch out for haze on still days. When there’s no wind, the valley can get a bit foggy, especially if locals are burning agricultural leftovers. It can look lovely and moody, but it’s worth knowing so it doesn’t surprise you.

Think twice about July and August. The heat can be crazy, and locals rarely get married in those months. May, June, September and early October are much kinder to you and your guests.
Getting ready in a trullo is cosy, not roomy. Trulli rooms are small and fairly dark inside. They make gorgeous backdrops, but plan to get ready somewhere with space and windows.

How to choose a trulli wedding venue

All five venues above have real trulli, so the choice comes down to size, style and how you want the weekend to feel.

Choose by what matters most

Drive from the airport: Brindisi is about 45–60 minutes from Ostuni and Canale di Pirro; Bari is about 1 hour from Locorotondo, Noci and Selva di Fasano.
Guest count: for a smaller full buyout, Masseria Grieco or Materiis. For a bigger guest list, Tenuta Monacelle or Leonardo Trulli Resort.
Rooms on site: these venues have rooms in trulli, masseria rooms or villas, so your closest people can stay. Trulli rooms are small, so ask how many beds you really get.
Rough price per guest: about €200–€400 for the venue share plus catering (see the price guide below).

Masseria Grieco or Tenuta Monacelle?

Masseria Grieco feels like your own private resort: eight trulli, a big square over the valley and an infinity pool, booked as a multi-night buyout. Tenuta Monacelle is bigger, with its own trulli village and an in-house events team. Views and a weekend with your people: Grieco. A larger wedding that runs itself: Monacelle.

Polished or wild: Leonardo Trulli Resort or Materiis?

Leonardo Trulli Resort is the polished one, with a rose garden courtyard and a chef who builds the menu around you. Materiis is an 1897 farmhouse in the oak woods near Noci, more rustic and natural. If you picture white linen and roses, Leonardo. If you picture wildflowers and long tables under the trees, Materiis.

FAQ

Can we legally get married at a trulli venue?

Civil ceremonies usually happen at the local town hall, so most couples have a symbolic ceremony at the venue and handle the legal part at home or in town. Your planner can confirm the options.

How far is the Itria Valley from the airport?

Roughly an hour or less from both Bari and Brindisi.

When is the best time of year?

May–June and September–early October: warm, green or golden, and without the peak summer heat.

Planning a wedding among the trulli?

I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up, whether it’s a 20-person elopement or a full weekend at a masseria. Tell me about your plans here, and let’s see if we’re a good fit. You can also browse my real weddings or check out my guide to the 20 best wedding venues in Puglia.

Trulli wedding price guide per guest

Larger estate with events teamTenuta Monacelle, Leonardo Trulli Resort€250–€400
